Seymour’s boys soccer team lost 2-1 in a tough road game against Whiteland on Saturday. The Warriors’ win was their first ever against an Owls team.

Whiteland struck in the ninth minute when an unlucky bounce caused freshman goalkeeper Will Smith to lose his handle on the ball. Reacting quickly, freshman striker Yahir Lugardo tapped the ball into an open net to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead.

Seymour equalized midway through the second half when senior Jacob Kriete knocked a delivery from Austin Clemente past opposing goalkeeper Chris Dawalt.

The game remained tied until Whiteland was given a penalty with 15 minutes to go after senior Owen Chandler was called for a handball in the penalty area. Warriors’ senior Trevor Pike calmly tucked his free shot into the upper left corner of the goal to restore the Whiteland lead.

Saturday’s loss dropped the Owls to 1-2-1 on the season. Their next game is at home tonight against the Bloomington North Cougars.

Owls JV won 1-0 on a second half goal by freshman Limber Lopez.
