Go outside and sniff the Rosies (in the library). The Rosie Book Club for 2017-2018 year had their first meeting on September 13. The Rosie Club’s purpose is to introduce students to books and novels they would probably not read outside of the Rosie Club, most notably the Rosie books.

The Rosie award gets it’s name from Eliot Rosewater, a fictional character created by Kurt Vonnegut and used in many of his well-known stories. The award is named after the character in order to honor him (Vonnegut) and all Indiana writers. The award is often referred to as the “Rosie” or “Rosie award.”

The Rosie books are 25 books selected every year by a committee of librarians to be given the Rosie book award. Only books published in the last 5 years are eligible for being a Rosie Book. The list of “wannabe” Rosie’s start at 75 and after a committee of librarians reads them and discuss them, the list shrinks down to 25 nominees, of which students vote for their favorite to get an award!

The new club, formed by SHS librarian Jill Prange, currently has 16 members enrolled and is open to any student who wants a new reading experience and a place to meet new and exciting people!
