The Turkey Earthquakes

The Turkey Earthquakes

Turkey has been under constant stress lately, with extreme earthquakes destroying homes and lives across the Kahramanmaras region. The first earthquake hit on the morning of February 6, 2023. Over 44,000 people died as a result.

On Monday, February 27, another earthquake occurred. It was a major aftershock from the first initial earthquake. There was only one death due to the earthquake. These earthquakes have installed great fear into the residents of Turkey. As they try to rebuild their cities, they are also trying to provide shelter for the homeless.

After the first initial earthquake that happened almost a month ago, people are still digging through the remains of what was once their homes and businesses. A dog was just now found in the rubble of Turkey, 23 days after the first earthquake. After being trapped under concrete for weeks on end, the Husky managed to stay alive. He has lost a lot of weight, but is otherwise healthy. The crowd cheered as he was pulled out of the debris.

Over the next year or so, Turkey is expected to experience a few more earthquakes. These earthquakes will not be as extreme as the first earthquake, and will decrease in severity as time goes on. Turkey has begun the reconstruction process, where they will have to rebuild at least $15 billion of destruction.
