On Sunday, February 23rd, the U.S. played Canada in the 2026 Winter Olympics. This match was very close, but during overtime, hockey star Jack Hughes scored the winning goal to give the USA the win, 2-1. During this overtime, there were three players on the ice: Zach Werenski, Jack Hughes, and Dylan Larkin. According to the Olympic rulebook, after a tied 60-minute regulation game, the teams play 3-on-3 for a set time, which is said to be a more tactical format.
At the end of the match, the team takes a photo together to celebrate their win, but you can see some of the players holding up a jersey. They hold this jersey to honor their teammate Johnny Gaudreau, who passed away on August 29th, 2024. Dylan Larkin and Matthew Tkachuk carried the jersey, and it was in the locker room throughout the tournament. Team USA carried his legacy on by winning the Gold medal in his honor.
