Prom is a beloved high school rite of passage. Students look forward to the dance for years leading up to the event and spend hours planning their outfits and meals. Prom is an excellent way to spend time with friends and significant others, but Seymour students will now be unable to attend.

Due to poor attendance and low grades from the junior and senior classes, the school has made the difficult decision to cancel prom in an effort to promote education and productivity in students. Mrs. Peters was quoted as saying, “My heart breaks for the junior and senior classes, but unfortunately, this tough decision had to be made. The school board firmly backs up our decision to cancel prom this year due to the failure of SHS attendees to take school seriously. I directly blame Senior Assassin.” The school understands that prom is a major event for many students, and they will still be able to attend other nearby proms. Columbus East High School will hold its prom on May 1, with tickets being sold for $30. In addition, Jennings County High School is offering discounted tickets to upset SHS students, with the tickets being on sale for only $100.

Despite the upsetting circumstances of prom being canceled, there is still plenty to look forward to at Seymour High School. The school year is quickly approaching its end, and the class of 2026 will soon be preparing for graduation. All students are encouraged to spend the time that would go towards shopping for spectacular dresses and extravagant meals on studying for their finals.
