The Seymour Owls soccer team beat the New Albany Bulldogs on Thursday night by a score of 2-0. This win brings the Seymour Owls to (3-4-1) and moves New Albany down to (3-4). The Owls played great all night, and with a mix of great defense and solid offense, it’s hard to lose when you play that well.
The first goal was scored around the 15th minute after a free kick by Senior David Polbito was kicked low under the defenders, and Sophomore Evan Unterseher was right by the goal to rebound the ball off the goalie for an easy tap-in. The crowd was loud all night, and that goal made them erupt. That was the Owls’ first home goal since 8/29 vs Jeffersonville, so it was great to see a goal scored that early.
The 2nd goal was scored around the 35th minute. After a corner kick by Senior Jaret Dominguez, Junior Kayden Cox headed the ball to Unterseher, who fired the ball into the left side of the goal for his 2nd goal of the night. The Owls had only scored four goals the whole season, and now they had two in the first half. This was exciting for the fans and the team.
Even with the two goals scored, the Owls could not have won without the help of their defense. Junior Lance Hubbard made 11 saves, including a few diving plays, where if it wasn’t for his great defense this could’ve been a very different game. The defenders were also playing great. Senior Logan Westfall played great defense, and you could really hear him talking to everyone out on the pitch. The Owls just kept it away from the goal most of the game and the ball movement was looking really good. This was a really good win for the Owls, and hopefully, this game can be a precursor for the rest of the season.
The Seymour Owls (3-4-1) will play the Oldenburg Academy Twisters (8-0) on Saturday 9/9 @ Seymour High School at Noon. Support the Owls!
