The real-time strategy game Clash Royale by SuperCell has made a reappearance on everyone’s phone after almost a decade since its release back in 2016.

Clash Royale challenges players to build a deck using eight cards. Players then use these eight cards to play against other players online. Each card is separated by rarity. There are common, rare, epic, legendary, and champion cards. Don’t let the rarity fool you; just because one card might be common doesn’t make it worse than a legendary card. Each card has its pros and cons. Common cards, like the knight, if placed right, can counter legendary cards like Mega Knight.

The purpose of the game is to take down the enemy towers. There are two princess towers, which are on the left and right sides of the main tower, the king tower. Taking down one princess tower rewards the player with one crown out of three; taking the king tower is an automatic win. The player with the most towers taken at the end of three minutes wins. If no winner is decided, then the game goes to overtime. If there is yet to be a winner, the player who did the most damage wins.

Clash Royale’s increasing popularity is due to the many updates the game has received. The game has changed a lot since 2016, with cards from common to legendary rarity being able to evolve after a certain number of times using these cards in a match. Making the player strategize more. The game has also introduced many other ways to clash. Players have the option to play against their friends or play with friends in a 2v2 format.

With the new update on November 24, 2025, players can now upgrade their cards to level 16 and have access to a new evolution type known as heroic evolutions. These heroic evolutions have abilities similar to champion cards. Along with that, if you get cards for a troop that is already max level, you earn a special currency known as crystals that can be used to buy exclusive cosmetics in the game.
