Led by a phenomenal senior class that will be challenging to replace, the Lady Owls finished their second perfect season and consecutive Sectional title on Saturday afternoon. What the Lady Owls accomplished was historic, finishing with a team score of 438, outracing Floyd Central (380) and Madison (308) as well as 11 other schools.

According to The Tribune’s Staff Reports, “throughout all of the success of the storied swimming program, Seymour has never won back-to-back sectional titles, until now.

“Seymour’s 200-yard freestyle relay team of Kate Woods, Laney Reinhart, Sallie Nicholson, and Lilly Simons won their event with a time of 1:43.03 and clinched a spot in the IHSAA State Swimming and Diving Finals.

“The Owls will compete in heat one of the event during preliminaries at this Friday’s event at the IU Natatorium on Friday at 6 p.m..

“Seymour finished runner-up in the 400-yard freestyle relay and the 200-yard medley relay competition, falling short to Madison in both, who won eight events. Woods also had a runner-up finish individually in the 100-yard freestyle, clocking a time of 54.98.

“Lauren Bode had a third-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke and the 200-yard IM, while Addy Castetter finished third in the 100-yard butterfly competition. Maggie Calhoun had a third-place finish in 1-meter diving with a score of 293.80.”
