On Sunday February 8, 2026, Kenneth Walker III (AKA K9) won Super Bowl LX MVP after the Seattle Seahawks defeated the New England Patriots. In his amazing Super Bowl performance, Walker had 135 yards on 27 carries and played a huge role in the win. He became the first running back to win Super Bowl MVP since Terrell Davis in 1998. But it has not always been a walk in the park for K9.
During his senior year at Arlington High School in Tennessee, Kenneth experienced breathing issues and chest pains during practice. After a trip to the emergency room, doctors found blood clots in both of his lungs. They told him he would likely never play the game he loved again because one hit in the wrong place could be fatal. While in the hospital, Walker went through multiple treatments and had to learn how to give himself daily shots. It was a scary time in his life, but he did not let his illness stop him. After months of recovery and hard work, Walker stepped back onto the field.
He first attended Wake Forest before transferring to Michigan State University, where he became one of the top running backs in college football. In 2022, he was selected in the second round of the NFL Draft by the Seattle Seahawks.
The Super Bowl meant even more to Walker because it was the first time his dad had ever watched him play in person. His dad usually stayed home during games because he does not like crowds. Kenneth said it meant the world to him that his father chose the Super Bowl to be his first game. His agent was actually the one who convinced him to go. After Walker’s performance on Sunday night, it became a memory his dad and family will never forget.
K9 was not only playing for his dad. He was also playing for his teammate Zach Charbonnet, who tore his ACL during the Divisional Round against San Francisco. Walker honored him by showing number 26 on his wrist during the game.
Through hard work and dedication, Kenneth Walker proved the doctors wrong and showed everyone what he is capable of. He rushed for 135 yards, the most in a Super Bowl since Terrell Davis, and made history with his MVP performance.
Now Walker is a free agent, and fans are wondering what he will do next. Will he stay in Seattle or choose to take his talent somewhere else?
In Seattle, he is known for being soft spoken and hardworking. Even when people doubted him, he kept fighting. After the game, he told reporters, “Do not take anything for granted because it all can get thrown away.”
Kenneth Walker’s story shows that obstacles do not define you. With determination and faith, anything is possible.
