Seymour High School’s Varsity Chorale will be showcasing its rendition of Freaky Friday at 7 p.m. on November 13, 14, and 15, along with a matinee on the 15th at 2 p.m. in the Earl D. Prout Auditorium. The matinee show features the understudy cast with Jack Charlton playing Adam during all four shows.
Freaky Friday tells the story of Ellie Blake, played by senior Brianna Gomez, and her mother, Katherine Blake, played by senior Blythe Brummett, as they struggle to navigate each other’s lives after a freaky incident causes them to switch bodies.
“My favorite part about being a lead is definitely challenging myself,” says Blythe Brummett. “It’s a lot of hard work. It’s a lot of lines, hard music, but I’m also strengthening my relationships with all of these people.”
The plot includes two love interests for Katherine and Ellie. Micah Yee portrays Mike, the man preparing to marry Katherine, and Jack Charlton brings Adam to life, a surfer-styled teenager, who is pursuing Ellie. Neither character knows he is spending time with the mother/daughter switch.
When asked about balancing home and theater life, Jack Charlton, who plays Ellie’s love interest Adam, says it’s a struggle. “I have a lot of homework and a lot of tests. I don’t even have time to eat!” says Charlton. “But I’m having so much fun.”
In addition to the principal and supporting characters, the Varsity Chorale ensemble, student pit orchestra musicians under the direction of Savännah Sturgell, Assistant Band Director, and various students running scene changes and backstage help.
Support local art by coming to see Freaky Friday. Advanced tickets are on sale for $10, $12 at the door, and $5 for the matinee.
