The American Red Cross will be hosting a blood drive next week at Seymour High School on April 1st. Students and staff can sign up during lunch periods starting Monday, March 23, through Friday, March 27th. To ensure a safe and successful event, please review the important eligibility and consent information below.
Eligibility & Consent Requirements
To donate blood, students must meet the basic health and weight requirements set by the American Red Cross. Additionally, please take note of these specific rules regarding parental permission:
- 16-Year-Old Students: You must have a signed American Red Cross Parental Consent form to donate. This form is required for every individual blood drive, even if you have donated in the past.
- 17-Year-Old Students: In Indiana, 17-year-olds may sign up to donate without parental consent. However, students are still encouraged to check with their parent/guardian before signing up to donate.
- How to Get the Form: The official Parental Consent form can be picked up at Red Cross table during lunch this week or printed from the American Red Cross website. Please ensure the form is signed by a parent or legal guardian and that the student brings the completed paper form with them on the day of the drive.
Next Steps for Students
- What to Bring: Please bring a valid form of ID and your completed consent form if you are 16.
- Donation Day: Remember to eat a healthy meal and drink plenty of water before your appointment.
